Meet Dr. Robert D. Gear, Jr., DMD, MD
Oral and Maxillofacial surgery requires additional years of hospital-based surgical and anesthesia training after graduation from dental school.
Dr. Gear is a graduate of the University of Florida College of Dentistry as well as the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School.
He completed his General Surgery internship and Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery residency at UT Southwestern/Parkland Hospital in Dallas, Texas. As an oral and maxillofacial surgeon, Dr. Gear manages a wide variety of problems relating to the mouth, teeth, and facial regions.
Dr. Gear practices a full scope of oral and maxillofacial surgery with expertise ranging from dental implant surgery and wisdom tooth removal to corrective jaw surgery.
This also includes techniques designed to rebuild bone structure with minimal surgical intervention and optimal patient comfort. We can also diagnose and treat facial pain, facial injuries, and fractures.

Dr. Gear is a long-time resident of Florida. He is a graduate of Fort Myers High School, as are both his daughters.
Dr. Gear received his bachelor’s degree from the University of Florida. His daughter Emily also graduated from the University of Florida, and his younger daughter Erin graduated from Florida State University.
Bob and his wife Marnie enjoy attending local sporting events, spending time with their yellow lab Henrietta, the family cats and traveling with their daughters.
When not in the office you’ll find Dr. Gear running, swimming, or biking in preparation for his next triathlon.
